
Ellen Pratley (maiden name Shayler) sentenced to seven days in prison, was the daughter of George and Rosetta (maiden name Hadland) Shayler who were married in 1841. George was born in Leafield in 1821 and Rosetta in in 1824, also in Leafield.
Ellen was born in Leafield in 1847. She had six brothers, Mark, Charles, Luke, Philip, Jesse and David, and four sisters, Mary Ann, Hannah, Caroline and Jane.
Ellen married John Pratley on 30 September 1869 in Leafield. John had been born in Ascott in 1849 and was an agricultural labourer. Ellen worked as a gloveress. They had eleven children, seven boys, John, George, Charles, Philip, Frank, Albert and Ernest, and four girls, Caroline, Ellen, Lily and Rose.
Ellen died and was buried in Leafield in 1921.
