Mary Moss (maiden name Edginton) sentenced to seven days in prison, was born in 1838 in Ascott. She was the daughter of Jonathan and Ann (maiden name Taylor) Edginton. Jonathan had been christened in 1804 in Ascott and Ann in 1806 in Taynton.
Mary had six brothers, Jonathan, James, Eli, John, Stephen and Nathan and two sisters, Shiphrah and Emily.
She married Alfred Moss on 17 September 1859 in Ascott. Alfred had been born in Ascott and was a carpenter/wheelwright. Mary worked as a gloveress. The couple had no children but brought up Alfred’s niece Louisa whose mother had died in childbirth.
Alfred died in 1887, but Mary continued living in Ascott with her niece in Mill Lane (High Street) until 1908 when she died and was buried in the village.
