National Library of Scotland – A comprehensive set of detailed digital scans of historic maps for the UK
Victoria County History, Oxfordshire – Though two general volumes were published in 1907 and 1939, detailed work on individual parishes and towns began only in the 1950s-60s, with the most recent volume (on the Chipping Norton area) published in October 2024. Twenty-one volumes have now been published out of 23 planned, covering most of the pre-1974 county.
Oxfordshire Heritage Search – Heritage Search is a catalogue of Oxfordshire’s heritage resources. Use it to find a wide range of materials relating to Oxfordshire’s past. The reference and contact information associated with each item allows you to find out more about items of interest. Heritage Search includes the datasets listed below, from Oxfordshire History Centre, Oxfordshire Museums Service, Oxfordshire Historic Environment Record (county) and Oxford Historic Environment Record (city).
Oxfordshire Family History Society – a society to promote the research into family history within the Oxfordshire (post 1974 boundary).
Oxfordshire Records Society – The Oxfordshire Record Society was founded in 1919. In 2019, it celebrated 100 years of publishing primary sources for the history of the county of Oxfordshire, and raising awareness and understanding of this vital evidence of the historic county.
Historic England – the public body that helps people care for, enjoy and celebrate England’s spectacular historic environment, maintains the national heritage list for England including listed buildings etc. A map search facility allows you to search for listed entities in the Wychwoods area:
Oxfordshire Local History Society – The OLHA is for everyone interested in the history of our county. We foster and promote the study and publication of local history and act as an umbrella organisation for local history groups, of which there are more than 80 in Oxfordshire.
Oxfordshire Buildings Record – Promoting the study and recording if Oxfordshire’s Traditional Buildings
