Kelcot House

Kelcot is not the largest and certainly not the most imposing house in Shipton but, even at first sight, it has a quirkiness which makes the viewer want to know more of its past – why does it have a cut stone front for example and why a Georgian bay window and a rather elaborate Victorian one as well? What was its past relationship to Rose Cottage to which it is joined? Since buying the house just over two years ago, I have tried to uncover part of its history, at least back to about 1830 and this is the basis of this brief article
